How I use business contact details

What I hold

The name of a company, its website, the town it is in, and a business email address published on its own website. Sometimes the first name of the person that address belongs to, when the website says it plainly. I also keep a record of the emails I sent and any reply.

Where it comes from

Public sources only: the company's own website and its public business listing.

Why, and on what basis

To offer my outbound service to companies that may need it. The legal basis is legitimate interests: telling a business about a relevant service, by a short email to a published business address, with a clear way to say no. I write only to companies (limited companies, LLPs and PLCs), never to sole traders or ordinary partnerships, as the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations require.

Your choices

Every email has a one-tap opt-out, and replying "no" works too. Either way I stop for good and keep only the address on a do-not-contact list, so it is never written to again.

How long

Details of a company that does not reply are deleted within 24 months. The do-not-contact list is kept for as long as I send emails, because that is how the opt-out is honoured.

Who else sees it

Only the services that carry the email and store the records, under contract and in the UK, the EU or under approved safeguards. I never sell or share the data.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of what I hold, ask me to correct or delete it, or object to its use, by replying to any email or by the contact above. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
